Welcome to our monthly School Board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the CISD School Board meeting that was held on May 11, 2026. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

Information Items

  • Superintendent, Dr. Yvonne Munoz’s report to the Board included updates on Comfort Education Foundation, notice of the Top 10% Luncheon on May 19, 2026, end of year events, reminders of the upcoming Summer Leadership Institute in June and the TASA/TASB Convention that will be held October 8-11, 2026 in Houston, TX.
  • Director of Academic Services, Dr. Boothe, informed the Board that May began with wrapping up EOY testing, which will measure growth from the beginning of the year to the end. Dr. Boothe provided the Board with a summary of the district’s Comprehensive Needs Assessment and outlined the district’s strengths (e.g., CCMS success, high graduation rate, CTE participation, administrative support, culture and collaboration, class ratios, technology use, instructional program offerings, etc.) and needs (e.g., STAAR/EOC performance growth, equitable access to Advanced Placement/coursework, Emergent Bilingual support, technology infrastructure and training, increase student involvement in extracurricular activities, greater access to mental health supports, barriers tied to socioeconomic constraints, family engagement, etc.
  • Health/Safety/Communications Coordinator, Emily Steffek, provided an update on the SHAC and School Safety and Security meetings held in April 2026. Mrs. Steffek provided the Board a copy of the TxSSC Operationalizing SBTA Technical Assistance Session Action Plan with Comfort High School and informed the Board of the 2026-2027 plans to do the same for the middle and elementary schools. She gave a revised cost estimate of equipping the CISD school buses with the SB 546 required three point seatbelts, reminded the Board of the 2029 deadline, and TEA required reporting in Sentinel by May 29, 2026.
  • Mary Garza gave a Food Service Report on Taher to include May’s promotion of Root Beer floats, offerings of chicken tostada and Korean bibimbap rice bowl, and the Harvest of the Month—spinach. Ms. Garza also gave an overview of the breakfast and lunch participation thus far.
  • Athletic Director, Jay Rieken, provided an overview and update on CISD athletics starting with CHS Baseball winning the first district title since 2019 as District Champions. The bi-district playoff series takes place this week in Brownwood. Coch Rieken reviewed the new Softball school records and informed the Board of the district awards, honorable mention, and academic all-district students. Coach Rieken reviewed the Track and Field regional qualifiers, and let the Board know of the 7-on-7 football upcoming June competitions and state qualifiers competing in Poth on May 29th. The School Board heard that 80 student-athletes completed physicals on April 29th.
  • Technology Director, Jennifer DiGiacinto informed the Board that the security camera upgrade project is now complete. An advanced AI-driven email threat protection system for both email platforms has been implemented. Technology pushed out new security measures to protect against cybersecurity threats.

  • Mrs. DiGiacinto told the Board CISD registration will launch this month for returning students.
  • McLemore reported to the Board on summer preparations such as resurfacing gym floors, deep cleaning and sanitization, and safety meetings.
  • Operations Director, Trent Wilson, updated the Board on facilities and grounds to include the replacement of three HVAC units, oven installation, adding mulch to CES’ playgrounds; safety and compliance to include fixing doors for safety and security; and transportation to include services to three school buses and service vehicles as needed.

  • The School Board approved the recommendation of the Administration that the Board set the date for the Public Hearing to Discuss the Proposed 2026-2027 Budget for June 29, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
  • The School Board approved the recommendation of the administration that the Board approve the MOU with Region 20 for the Teacher Residency Program as presented.
  • The School Board approved the recommendation of the administration that the Board adopt the Reimbursement Resolution as presented.
  • The School Board approved the recommendation of the administration that the Board Adopt a Resolution Canvassing the Returns and Declaring the Results of the Comfort ISD May 2, 2026 Bond Election and Other Matters in Connection Therewith as presented.
